D23 WOW

Let me begin by saying…I wish I had been there!  I think I am going to try to make 2019 for sure!

Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman, Bob Chapek presented what is coming up at Walt Disney World at the D23 Expo this weekend and here are a few of the things he has to share!

Let’s start with something that hasn’t gotten discussed much!  With all the talk about Star TS Land 2018Wars in the parks, many have set aside the fact that Toy Story Land is also being built at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!  Personally, I like this one!  Opening in the Summer of 2018, you can experience what it is like to be in Andy’s backyard.  Many of our favorite characters will be in attendance.  We will be able to say hello to Woody, Buzz, Slinky Dog, and others!

We now know the name of the new out of this world Attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  The new area will now be called Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge!  It will be a totally Star Wars Resortimmersive experience that will have a story that will follow each guest throughout the land!  You may even have an opportunity to earn Galactic Credits along the way!  One of the highlights will be the ability to fly the Millennium Falcon!  The Disneyland version will open slightly ahead of the one in Florida, but both are expected to be fully operational sometime in 2019.  I can’t wait!

Over at EPCOT, a new movie for the China Pavilion is in the works with a newer Circlevision 360 appearance.  There will be a seamless viewing area to make the experience more authentic!

In France, a new Ratatouille ride will be built.  If you are familiar with the pavilion, the ride will be located to the left, near the Eiffel Tower.  Disneyland Paris has this ride, and many guests have said it was one of the best attractions of ANY Disney Park worldwide.

RH5_4678You may have heard the rumors about Guardians Of The Galaxy landing at EPCOT.  Well, rumor no more!  A new Guardians themed attraction will move into the Universe of Energy!  While the story is still under development, EPCOT will be at the center of it all!

Mission Space has a new Green experience debuting when the attraction comes out of refurbishment in a few weeks!  A more family friendly, less stressful adventure lies ahead for all to share!  At D23, it was playfully described as Soarin’ Around The World, from space!  Sounds like fun to me!

At the Magic Kingdom TRON Lightcycle Run will take up residence in a newly developed area next to Space Mountain in Tomorrowland!  Many have been concerned about what this means for the Tomorrowland Speedway, but there was nothing mentioned about it being demolished to make room for TRON.  Stay tuned as we see more down the road!

There will also be a new theater for The Magic Kingdom based on the 1920’s Willis Wood Willis Wood Theater MKtheater in Kansas City. The placement of this theater, and the purpose of it, have not been revealed at this point, so we shall see what comes along!

Are you ready for a new way to get around the Walt Disney World property?  Well, the wait may be a bit longer, but we now have a glimpse of the gondola system under development.  The Disney Skyliner will RH5_4678provide transportation from Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Caribbean Beach to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway for EPCOT.  This looks somewhat reminiscent of the old Skyway at Magic Kingdom.  There is also a new Point-to-Point transportation system with Minnie Minnie's Vansvehicles to help you get around the property more efficiently.

Finally, for this post, Have you ever wondered what a completely immersive Resort experience would be like?  Well, in a few years, we will all have the chance to find out as Walt Disney World brings a new Star Wars themed resort to life!  From the moment you walk in until the end of your stay, you will be a part of the story that develops.  And, your view will not be of a Theme Park, or resort area, or anything on earth!  Each window will have a galactic view!  This sounds amazing!  One catch, it is being billed as a Deluxe experience, so expect a rather large cost!Star Wars Resort

Roundup WDW #1

Greetings friends!

Pop Century

A room refurbishment has been taking place at Disney’s Pop Century Resort since February of this year.  The rooms are being completely redesigned with modern conveniences such as a big screen TV on the wall, two QUEEN SIZED beds (one is Murphy style), all new color schemes, and more!  The complete refurbishment at Pop is expected to last through May 7, 2018.  In addition, some refurbishments will continue to occur throughout the resort and may include Dining, shopping, and other guest areas of the property.

Attraction Refurbishments

In EPCOT, Mission Space continues to be under refurbishment with no known date announced for reopening.  As a result, the Advanced Training Lab is also not available at this time.

Magic Kingdom has a lengthy refurbishment scheduled for Splash Mountain.  This will begin on August 28 and continue through November 16, 2017.  No doubt there will be fresh paint involved!

Pandora Extra

Because of the popularity of Pandora – The World of Avatar, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will remain open to Disney On-site guests through August 19, 2017.  Valid theme park admission and Resort identification are required to take advantage of this ‘extra’ benefit!

Rumor Roundup

There is a huge rumor floating about that EPCOT is about to undergo a fairly sizable refurbishment!  Long overdue, I am sure!  There haven’t been many details, as yet.  But, it is expected to be a large part of the Parks and Resorts forum at the D23 Expo next month in Anaheim.  I will be watching anything I can to keep you up on this rumor!

How about you?  What changes, enhancements, or additions would you like to see during this rumored refit?  Leave your comments below, let’s start a conversation!

Until next time, my friends…Keeping The Magic Alive

Remember Where We Parked

And, so it happens!  You drive to your favorite Theme Park, park the car, go have a long day of fun and excitement, and then…you forget where you parked the car!

There a few solutions to this issue.  You can just walk around the parking lot hoping to stumble upon your vehicle.  You can wait until everyone else leaves and find your car as it is one of only a few left, enjoy the walk!  Or, you can record where you parked before you leave your spot in the lot!

Let’s use parking for The Magic Kingdom, as an example.  You are parking in possibly the largest lot in the U.S.  Commonly referred to as the Transportation and Ticket Center lot, you could almost find yourself in a different ZIP code.  It would be easy to get turned around and lose your ride, for a time!

MK Parking

So, take a moment to make a note, take a picture, something to help you find your way ‘home’ after a long day at the park!

This is not a tip just for Walt Disney World, it can apply to any of the Central Florida theme parks.  And, how embarrassing is it to think you couldn’t get back to your wheels?

Thanks for reading and have a magical_matthew day!
